The finished head and the tying off are normally the last thing that is done to finish when tying the fly. There are at a minimum nine different whip finishes They are:

1. Half Hitch tool method.
2. Matarilli tool method.
3. Tiemco tool method.
4. Griffin tool method.
5. Thompson style tool method.
6. Whitlock CA+ method.
7. One finger half hitch method.
8. Two finger manual method #1.
9. Two finger manual method #2.

I have gone through each method step by step to show how each one is done. Not one method is better than another. It is just like everything with fly tying: "personal preference". One thing is for sure, it takes practice. I know a number of fly tiers and they all use one of the methods I have listed above.
